Report from Models 2013

ACM/IEEE 16th International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems (MODELS2013) is “the premier venue for the exchange of innovative ideas and experiences of model-based approaches in the development of complex systems. Since 1998, MODELS has provided a broad forum for reporting scientific progress as well as experiences stemming from practical application of model-based methods. MODELS is a highly selective conference, with an acceptance rate averaging 20% in recent years.” (from http://www.modelsconference.org/).

The software engineering department is actively involved in this model-based engineering community from various aspects such as publishing scientific papers, serving as PC members and session chairs (senior scientist Tao Yue and adjunct scientist Bran Selic), giving tutorials (adjunct scientist Bran Selic) and organizing workshops (scientist Shaukat Ali) in the MODELS2013, and also participating in the definition of various OMG standards (e.g., UML Testing Profile). Especially in 2013, the software engineering department has three regular conference papers, two workshop papers, one tool demonstration (collaborating with Beihang University, China), and three posters presenting three PhD thesis topics accepted in the MODELS 2013. This is a very impressive achievement as a single organization (i.e., Simula) achieves such a high number of publications and strong involvement in such a premier conference of the model-based engineering field. Three full-time and one part-time scientists and one PhD student of Simula, two graduate students of Beihang University co-supervised by Simula scientist Tao Yue will attend the conference; therefore such a strong representation of Simula at MODELS2013 will definitely guarantee the high visibility of Simula and Norway in this international conference.

It is worth mentioning that SFI industrial partners (e.g., Cisco, FMC Technologies) were actively involved and contributed to these achievements by providing industrial case studies, co-authoring scientific papers, trying out prototype tools and providing feedbacks. The collaboration with Beihang university also played an important role when achieving all the successes.
